16eleven Jewels was created on a whim: Amber Bergman, a 29 year old professional born and raised on the island of Curaçao with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, had been toying with the idea of making her own jewelry for a while. Having lived in Amsterdam and South Florida for several years and feeling disheartened by the variety of fashionable yet unique and affordable accessories on the island, making jewelry seemed like the perfect creative outlet.
One day in January of 2013 she decided to make herself some bracelets and a Facebook page and just like that 16eleven (pronounced sixteen-eleven) Jewels was born. She started sharing the Facebook page with family and friends and their encouragement and enthusiasm caused the page’s popularity to take off. What started as nothing more than an idea and a minimal personal investment soon grew into a business with an ever growing client base. It amazes her how simple word of mouth and Facebook have caused her hobby to turn into a full blown business.
Every design is an experiment and her friends often give her input and feedback. The design process is simple for Amber, she thinks “What would I want to wear and what would I be willing to pay for it?”, and this is the key behind every piece she creates. She tries to keep her pieces exclusive, with a focus on details, craftsmanship and the combination of materials and colors. She truly prides herself on making pieces to fit her customers’ taste and budget and makes many custom pieces, sets and even orders materials specifically based on requests she receives.
16eleven Jewels is a work in progress. Amber has big dreams and her ideas for pieces to come knows no boundaries. She says, “I am so blessed to be able to do this everyday and truly honored that people want to buy my creations. I promise the best is yet to come!”
